From The Trail of Painted Ponies. Fancy Dancer Lamp. Made of resin. Measures 17" high.Artist: Devon Archer The Fancy Dance evolved from the early Plains tribe's war and victory dances. It is an energetic style of dance, usually performed by younger men who spin, twist, and make quick steps and fast turns. Their outfits are traditionally composed of lots of bright colors, metallic beads, sequins and ribbons which create a flashy display. They have two bustles, a head roach and intricately beaded headband… all of which are faithfully and stunningly recreated on a spirited, snorting horse that is caught up in the excitement of the drum beat. His album "Ghost Dance" brought him Artist and Album of the Year at the 2000 Native American Music Awards. As talented a painter as he is a songwriter, Bill dug deep within his music and his art to create a spiritual memorial to the massacre at Wounded Knee. With the words to "Ghost Dance" written on the horse beside the portrait of a warrior who fought the White Man but is able to overcome bitterness with faith in a better tomorrow, Bill has created a powerful and original artwork. "As a Native American musician and visual artist, I consider my art and my music gifts to be from my Creator. It was a special challenge to be able to paint on something other than canvas, especially a full-size pony. I believe it brought out a new me. From The Trail of Painted Ponies. Gingerbread Pony. Made of resin. Measures 6" high. Artist: Lynn Bean Come Christmas in artist Lynn Bean's home, baking gingerbread cookies was a cherished tradition. "As my mother rolled out the dough, my sister and I would press the cookie cutter designs of stars, bells, animals and people. The yummy smell of gingerbread baking would fill the kitchen. After the cookies cooled we would add frosting and decorations. Then we would eat the rejects, making enough to take to Grandma's house or for friends at school." With these magical memories in mind, Lynn designed a Pony of frosted cookies and candies, complete with a Christmas country scene of an old barn and a gingerbread family leading a pony among the trees and bells of the holiday.
